The past years has brought the Philippines into the limelight of world pool because of great players like Efren "Bata" Reyes. And now Renato Alcano, who won an upset victory over Reyes in the World Pool 2006 Championship, has again brought pride to the Philippines by becoming the 2006 World Pool Champion. 

Renato Alcano got a 17-11 victory against Germany’s Ralf Souquet. The World Pool 2006 Championship was held in Manila last Sunday night. Renato who went into the game against Souquet, a former champion, showed excellent form. Renato managed to get a 14-7 lead over the German early in the game.

Alcano now joins the ranks of Efren "Bata" Reyes and Alex Pagulayan as world pool champions. The championship title brings with it the pride, a championship trophy and a $100,000 prize money.
