| The new Apple iPhone |
Apple has recently announced its entry into the cell phone consumer electronics market. The long speculation in the industry has ended at the CES with Steve Jobs' introduction of the Apple iPhone.
The Apple iPhone's is packed with features as a cell phone and audio/video iPod combined. The iPhone uses a version of Apple's own operating system, the Mac OS X.
The sleek and thin form-factor makes it look like an iPod with a big/wide screen. The wide touch screen uses software innovation to do away with a stylus.
The Apple iPhone does not have an external memory slot but is available in 4GB and 8GB memory configurations. The storage space is should be enough for addressbook and calendar entries, messages, music and video files.
The Apple iPhone has quadband GSM, EDGE (I wish this is 3G by the time the phone is available in the Philippines), Wifi (802.11b/g) and bluetooth.
Besides being able to play audio and video files, it is also able to take pictures and video using it's 2-megapixel camera.
One of the unique features of the Apple iPhone is having two batteries -- one for the phone and the other for playing multimedia files. This gives the iPhone a distinct advantage in terms of length of usage before needing to recharge the batteries.
The Apple iPhone is not yet available and will initially be available in the US from Cingular. The Apple iPhone may be available in the Philippines next year (wish it's earlier).
